Where shall I even begin with Conversations with Claire!? So much was going on it was overwhelming, but in a completely good way. The first word that immediately comes to mind when I think of this event is inspiring! For those who aren’t aware, Conversations and Cocktails with Claire is a fashion networking event started by the Fashion Icon herself, Claire Sulmers where fashion industry professionals can connect, network, and meet other like minded individuals. Her goal is to have us all grow together and elevate! The event was split into two parts. Part one from 1-4pm consisted of 3 panel guests dropping gems who’ve held and still hold high positions in fashion and other well respected industries. The Panel was comprised of Celebrity Stylist/Life Coach/Fashion Designer Misa Hylton, Sirius XM’s Host Bevy Smith, and Celebrity Designer, Duckie Confetti. The second half of the event was just filled with a load of networking, popping music, shopping and of course cocktails! The most important and best part of the event was the panel.
After the panel guests finished dropping gems, They opened the event up for the audience to ask questions. What was just a simple question turned into an emotional moment for everyone in the room including myself as my friend asked her question. As my friend asked her question, she began to cry which I later found out was a mixture of her anxiety and internal struggles in the mix of everything. I know she was super embarrassed, but I admire her so much for getting up there and just being brave and telling her story. I believe everyone in the room admired her for that because everyone came and approached her afterwards and said that! Everyone in the room was in sync with each other, it was something I’ve never experienced at a networking event before. Pure magic. It’s like we all felt her emotions. I know I truly did.
I am so glad I recorded most of what they said on the panel. The amount of gem’s being dropped were truly life changing and painfully inspiring. You just had to be there. It reminded me of what Im supposed to do and it served as a reminder for me to just keep going despite my feelings of doubt.
Before I like to go to a networking event, I make it goal to go over my elevator pitch and set out to speak to 2-3 people that could be of benefit to me in my journey. I am still shocked that I went up to the people I did to ask for advice. From this I learned a valuable lesson. On the opposite side of fear can lie opportunities that can change your life. I ended up connecting with the Marketing Manager of Ashley Stewart (who I plan to speak to in the upcoming days) and the lovely Claire Sulmers herself. At first I was super nervous to approach Claire, but as I began talking more the fear went away and it was just a regular conversation with an experienced icon. I don’t know how many regular people can actually say that. Im not really sure what all came out of my mouth after I asked her for a picture, but I based on the pictures it clearly was good, because we were engaged!
I kept feeling this tugging urge to go speak to them both throughout the entire event. I could not leave until I did just that. I think that was God’s way of telling me to go for it and to step out of my comfort zone. I was truly out of my comfort zone when I approached her. Her insight on becoming a better fashion blogger were valuable. It felt really good afterwards. All in all, I am so thrilled I made the investment and came to this event. It was all in God’s Plan.
What networking events have you all been to recently that you had a great takeaway from? Would love to hear about it!
