Let’s face it we’re always looking for ways to enhance our work wardrobe and style different looks that will bring us to desk to dinner with ease. Or maybe you’re an individual who wants a wardrobe that matches your career and leadership role within your organization. I wanted to put a twist on things and offer a series of looks that are versatile for the summer time, yet also provide a professional touch to get you through the work day in style and professionalism during the summer months. Stay tuned as each week for the next 4 weeks I will be offering outfit inspiration and style tips on how to look amazing and dress your best for work during the summer months.
My time working in a corporate/casual work environment has given me the experience in mastering desk to dinner looks. I know how important it is to look polished and professional for that meeting you have at 9:30AM, and also be ready to grab happy hour drinks with your co workers at 6:30PM. It’s all about balance, incorporating versatile pieces, and pieces that are also stylish and comfortable. I’ve been insanely blessed to have the opportunity of working in jobs that do not require a super strict dress code. Those are one of the several perks of working in the fashion industry; being able to express your sense of style freely.
Depending on the field you’re in, a lot of work environments call for a professional casual dress code. Professional enough that you wouldn’t wear booty shorts, but casual enough where you may where medium washed jeans (unripped) followed up with a colorful blouse with a pair of chic booties or sandals.
This week’s outfit is all about color and how to balance that so it’s not overwhelming for the work environment.
It was important I pick out an unorthodox piece and pair it with something that added a professional touch. As you can see the unorthodox piece here with the crazy colors are my culotte trousers! What’s crazy is that I was about to throw these in a give away bag, because I felt like I looked like a clown in them. Had I not done my closet cleanse, I would’ve just thrown these pants to the side and never worn them again. Another driving point is to conduct a closet cleanse to digest what’s in your closet, and put together different types of looks that will pair with what you already own.
This look is pleasing to the eye, professional chic, and comfortable! If you’re headed to dinner or to the bar after work, its still chic and casual enough for that occasion. I really wouldn’t recommend changing anything. I would however recommend throwing in a good hand bag and a chic pair of shoes to your ensemble to bring it all together.
Key takeaway: If you own a pair of colored or interesting printed culotte’s like the one’s I have on, experiment with the play on neutral colors, specifically black to tone down the print in the outfit. Focus on one article of clothing that will be the loud print/loud color, then play around with your neutrals. For this case, you’ll be going to the office so the black, grey, white color combination for neutrals would be your best bet as far as playing with neutrals and bold prints. If you’re wanting this look take a look at outfit deats below. I tried my best to include similar pieces has a lot of these items are old.
