I did some research and gathered some tips from mental health professionals and some tips I’ve been using to overcome coronavirus anxiety. It’s important we know the facts on coronavirus and come up with ways to ease our anxiety during this time. We’re experiencing a pandemic that will go down in history books.
1. Don’t turn on the news the first thing when you wake up.
I think it’s important we stay up to date with the latest updates on the coronavirus, however don’t be excessive with how much of the news you watch. After a while, you just get sick of hearing it. Anytime we log on social media, what do you see? Coronavirus coverage and news stories. I must admit, the memes circulating are funny, but it’s getting overwhelming the amount of coverage going on. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly is upsetting. Limit the the exposure to coronavirus news.
2. Stay off Social Media
Social Media is where a lot of us get our news and latest updates. It’s almost impossible to log on any social platform and not be bombarded with corona virus related content. More people are giving into some of the false articles/information that’s being shared instead of learning the facts. I would recommend limiting your social media time maybe about an hour a day if you find your yourself getting overwhelmed by Corona Virus Content.
3. Read Up on The Facts
It’s better you read the facts on Corona Virus from credible sources so that you know how it may affect you and the people around you. You can find some up to date credible sources here where you can get all of the facts you need on the virus. Try to have a sense of logic and don’t feed into the hype of all of the people going nuts over toilet paper and food. We are not going to run out of food. The more people who are inside the better we can control the spread of the virus.
4. Focus on Self Care
Now is the time to focus on indulging in any activity that relaxes you. It’s the perfect time to focus on housework, side projects, or even binge a great netflix series with a glass of Moscato 🙂 Treat yourself to a relaxing evening. Self- care looks different for a lot of people. With that being said, engage in self-care activities that bring you the most joy. I posted some ideas for self care on my Instagram feed to help you with some ideas.
There is a plethora of scientific evidence that proves meditation can improve your anxiety and self-awareness. I can even speak to that from experience. The challenge is finding a space where you can be in complete silence and away from any distractions.
I have not been in the gym, and honestly would rather wait until this blows over before going back. Exercising is an amazing way to release stress. You know that feeling when your chest feels heavy because your so anxious and stressed? Well exercising helps to relieve that tension and stress you’re encountering. I would suggest doing some home workouts due to the current state we’re in to just be safe.
7. Connect with Family and Loved Ones
Instead of scrolling through Instagram, check in with your older relatives, or other loved ones who may have under lying conditions and see how they are doing. It’s always a great feeling being in communication with loved ones during these stressing times. Especially a pandemic. Did I miss any tips here? How are some of you coping during all of this? What are some ways you all are managing your COVID-19 anxiety? The important thing to remember is not to panic and stay inside for the next week or two. Avoid large crowds. If you’re sick, please don’t be selfish and go out to just spread it to other people 🙁
